Who am I Feature

“Who am I?” is one of our most basic and essential life questions. In this article, we will discover God’s definition of who I am could be the best answer to that human question. We’ll look at a useful resource in finding the real me…my true identity as a child of God, a person created in His image with all the perks and benefits, joy and peace, purpose and fulfillment that entails. And we’ll do that in a fun, encouraging, light-hearted way.

The resource is The Real Me, an Interactive Life Journal for Women in their Next Chapter. Information about it and how to obtain it are included further down in this post.

Journal writing who am I?

Who am I? Really?

We tend to be identified by our roles in life. Some of mine include grandma, retired elementary teacher, mom, wife, sister, and friend. Those roles have enriched and filled my life to overflowing! I’m grateful for those ‘identities.’ However, the one that means the most and is more important than all the rest combined is being a child of God.

I joined God’s family a little over 60 years ago. I was nine years old when I repeated the prayer that added my name to all the others who had been adopted. I’m assuming you’re also a part of the same family! (If you’re not yet and would like to, hop down to the end of this post and check out: “Becoming a Part of God’s Family”).

I’ve suffered from lack of confidence issues most of my life (we won’t talk about the band challenges in Jr. High!) Fortunately, I grew out of that awkward stage, but even as an adult, there is still more to learn about receiving God’s love and understanding why He loves me so much! In addition, I learning what that means for my relationships and life as a mom, wife, grandma, sister, and friend.

During the four weeks in The Real Me Journal, you’ll receive a new theme with supporting Bible verses each week. There will be a place to record prayer requests (and answers), encouraging journal prompts (if you want them), and a space to write freely. An optional weekly challenge and other resources and special gifts will support your month-long journey.

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 (NLT)

Discovery Time

Time to consider…are you experiencing that feeling you don’t belong, or maybe you find yourself involved in the comparison game? Those challenges have bothered me off and on over the years. Also, missing out on that feeling of satisfaction or contentment could plague you or someone you know.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could…

  • learn the absolute truth about who you are?
  • enjoy that feeling of belonging?
  • appreciate a fulfilled and meaningful life?
  • experience joy, peace, and confidence?
  • gain new healthy habits for continued spiritual growth?

Let me tell you, though, it’s fun, upbeat, and encouraging. You’ll learn about yourself and your loving Father, who thinks you’re pretty awesome! You’ll grow in confidence and peace. The ‘interactive journal’ is set up to be completed in four weeks. Of course, you could do it quicker or take as long as you want. But, just think, in a month, you could be well on your way to a solid sense of who you really are…’ the real me,’ a child of the King, which makes you a royal princess, right?!

“Becoming a Part of God’s Family” from The Real Me:

(This is a quick explanation of becoming a Christian (a member of God’s family). See this article for an overview of several Bible verses that support and explain the process in greater detail. It’s called The Roman Road.)

So this will be the simplest, hardest, most life-changing thing you’ll ever do. And, the most important. The easiest because all you have to do is say these words. The hardest because all you have to do is say these words.

It is the most life-changing and important because your name will now be written in the Book of Life, and your eternity with the Lord and all your sisters (and brothers) in Him begins. And, all the things we discuss in The Real Me will now apply to you!

Ready? I hope so! Here we go…

Pray these words:

Lord, I admit I am a sinner (big and little ones). I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin and recognize that Your mercy and grace are a gift You offer me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith, I receive You into my heart as the Son of God, Savior, and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control. In Your precious name, Amen.
